Water Rocket RPG Launched At 100psi 500ml
This is another one of my water rocket RPG launch at Seng Kang open field. The rocket was filled with 500ml of water, which is the maximum, anything more than that will slow down the rocket.
The rocket is then filled with air through a quality bicycle pump to an air pressure of 100psi, which is more than 3 times the normal air pressure of a car tire at around 30 psi.
For this test, the rocket fly way too high up to the sky probably because the angle of launch was too much, around 70 degrees. Ideally, it should be about 45-60 degrees to obtain a long horizontal distance.
World First RPG Propelled By Water Bottle Rocket
This is the RPG that I have created that is propelled by pressurized water and air. If you can’t see me, I’m at the far right of the video, the spot where I launched the RPG water rocket.
For this video, the rocket is pressurized to 60psi and filled with 250ml of water. You can see that when the rocket is launched, there is some short burst of water spray which is the reaction mass that help to propel the water rocket forward.
This happens because water is forced out of the rocket by the pressurized air.
The water rocket then reaches a peak when the water has all expelled out, it then descends back to the ground due to the force of gravity.
RPG Powered By Water Rocket
I saw this youtube video on how someone actually creates a “missile” using water rocket and shows his creation to a group of students.
In the video, the man is speaking cantonese and i believe he’s from Hong Kong.
He explains that the entire water rocket is made from mostly recycled materials like your coke bottles but you need to spend some time to make it work.
What I’m amazed is that he can control the “missile” with accuracy and i think it’s very educational and fun for students to learn from this experience rather than playing their video games.
For more details, you can click here to go to his website. It’s a chinese
site so you might need some translation.
What Is A Water Rocket?
As you can see from the video, a water rocket is simply a cola bottle pressurized with water and air.
It’s also commonly called the “water bottle rocket” because any carbonated bottle can be used as the body of the water rocket.
The rocket in the video is an inverted 2 litres coke bottle filled with 500ml of tap water and attached to a bicycle pump.
The coke bottle have fins attached to make it balanced so that
it can fly upwards into the sky.
The coke bottle is attached to a bicycle pump creating an air tight
connection. As the boys starts to pump air into the bottle, air cannot escape and thus pressurized inside the bottle.
This creates a great source of potential energy which when released, will propel the bottle high up into the sky.
